Subject: P-8A UHF Frequency Assignment with Amplifier (MAG Coordination)

Hi Randy,

The P-8A program has a UHF frequency assignment under serial number N
098993 (286 MHz). The P-8A RT-1939 system uses an amplifier and the current
frequency assignment has the amplifier approved for use. SPS-18657/4
included the amplifier but the current SPS-18657/7 does not include the
amplifier. NMCSO NW is unable to submit the renewal for this assignment with
the amplifier as the current SPS stands. They will only be able to use the
lower power levels in the current SPS document.

We (Boeing) have a requirement in the Functional Test Procedure (FTP) to
momentarily test the maximum power setting with the amplifier to make sure
the system doesn't throw any errors. This is a short duration ground only
test required to deliver the aircraft to the Navy.

I was wondering if we could submit an FCC experimental request to use the
same frequency (286 MHz) so we can continue the meet the testing
requirements with the amplifier. Obviously this will require MAG approval
and is why I am contacting you. Not sure if you're the current MAG chair but
I thought you could provide some guidance and point me in the right
direction.

Attached is a draft FCC technical description and the current assignment
that will expire in June.

As always, we appreciate any guidance and help you can offer.

Take Care

Joe
