Washington, D.C. 20554 Re: Requestfor Experimental License to Test Remote Terminal on Airborne Aircraft Dear Ms. Dortch: Tachyon Networks Incorporated ("Tachyon") was granted a Special Temporary Authority to Test a new 18" remote terminal communicating with an Intelsat—owned, U.S. licensed hub in the frequency bands 11.7—12.2 GHz and 14.0—14.5 GHz on May 19, 2011, File No. SES—STA—20110427—00518 and again on September 6, 2011 File No. SES—STA— 20110901—01019 (collectively, "Stationary STA"). The Stationary STA was limited to stationary testing of the remote terminal. Tachyon now desires to test the same remote terminal on a mobile, airborne aircraft. Therefore, Tachyon requests a grant of a Special Temporary Authority for four (4) months from the date of license grant to test the 18" remote terminal on an airborne aircraft ("Mobile STA"). The 18" remote terminal will communicate with one (1) of three (3) Intelsat—owned, U.S. licensed hubs. The hub used for testing will depend upon satellite availability at the time of testing. The hub station used for testing will operate in accordance with the coordinated parameters of its current license. In the unlikely event that harmful interference occurs, Tachyon will take all reasonable steps to eliminate the interference. Grant of this Mobile STA will enable Tachyon to test this new antenna to determine whether it can be incorporated into the existing U.S. Government service offering. As such, the grant of this application is in the public interest.
