Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Pursuant to section 5.61 of the Commission’s Rules and Regulations, Rockwell Collins, Inc. (Rockwell Collins) hereby requests a Special Temporary Authorization to perform preliminary testing of a new radio product capable of transmitting and receiving radio frequencies in the range of 240.0-326.6 MHz and 337.4-380.0 MHz at effective radiated power levels (ERP) of up to 46.624 Watts.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  Testing the operation of the Rockwell Collins Tactical Data Radio System (TDRS) when it is connected to a wideband antenna. The STA requested will be used to test the operation of the Rockwell Collins Tactical Data Radio System (TDRS) when it is connected to a wideband antenna. The TDRS will transmit and receive data to other TDRS radios to determine if data can be transmitted to other TDRS radios without being corrupted. The test results will be used to establish the performance of the radio. Test Location/Schedule: The testing will be conducted at the Rockwell Collins facilities located in Richardson, Texas over a five-month period. The testing will commence on January 20, 2007 and will conclude on June 20, 2007. Test Description: During the test, IP message generators will be connected to the LAN side of the radio. The IP message generators will send sufficient data to the TDRS that will cause the queuing mechanism of the radio to start processing the messages from pre-configured queues. This data will be transmitted from the TDRS through the wideband antenna to other TDRS radios. The TDRS radios will be transmitting the data in the radio frequency ranges of 240.0-326.6 MHz and 337.4-380.0 MHz. The TDRS radios will operate at a maximum power of 44 Watts and the antenna will emit a maximum ERP of 46.624 Watts.
