                          Description of Modification and Antenna
Rockwell Collins, Inc. (“Rockwell Collins”) respectfully requests a modification of its
experimental license with call sign WI2XZE, which is currently used to communicate command
and control messages to unmanned aerial vehicles (“UAVs”) flying below 400 feet for beyond
visual line of sight (“BVLOS”) research flights. Rockwell Collins’s modification seeks to add
one new antenna location to its approved license for additional testing.
The new antenna for which Rockwell Collins seeks approval will be located in Devil’s Lake,
North Dakota, at NL 48-3-25.98, WL 98-54-00.93. It will be mounted using cells on wheels, as
depicted in the attachment to File Number 0169-EX-CM-2017, and its height from the ground to
the tip of the antenna will be 33.5 meters.
Rather than BVLOS, the new antenna will be visual line of sight to the UAVs. In addition, as
with the other antennae, the UAVs will be flown by pilots from the University of Iowa, which
owns the platform on which the radios will be placed.
