Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Proxim, Inc. (Proxim) herein requests EXTENSION of its Special Temporary Authority (STA) under Section 5.61 of the Commissions rules pending processing of its underling application for PERMANENT AUTHORITY (see File No. 0271-EX-PL-2006). Proxim is filing the instant extension request because its original STA will expire in fewer than 15 days, and thus it cannot continue to operate on the basis of that original STA. Proxim seeks authority in order to continue demonstration and testing a new line of equipment in the 3400-3600 MHz band intended exclusively for INTERNATIONAL USERS. As in the original application, the operation will consist of up to ten (10) base units at and around Proxims testing facilities around San Jose, CA and its Gilroy, CA. Proxim is demonstrating its WiMax system, which it has been designing and needs to put in active test environments, for products to be EXPORTED to international users. Proxim herein seeks STA for up to six (6) additional months permitting it to continue its testing program for the WiMax devices. Proxims equipment consists of temporary-fixed base units, at and around the four areas identified in the succeeding portions of this application in order to demonstrate its functionality and to gain valuable testing information for implementation as Proxim considers its final product. The coordinates identified are centerpoints associated with Proxim labs and affiliated base station locations.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  Continued testing and demonstration of a new line of WiMax equipment pending grant of underlying application for permanent authority (File No. 0271-EX-PL-2006)
