Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The STA is needed to conduct experimental tests in an outdoor environment for a DoD sponsored research project conducted at NCSU. The project involves an active RF probing system that will be used by military personnel in the field. Researchers at NCSU have conducted low power tests in a laboratory setting and are now ready to demonstrate the probing technology to their DoD sponsors at a higher power and in a realistic environment. The STA is necessary to allow legal broadcast in the band of operation for this demonstration, 420-500 MHz, for duration not to exceed six months. This time frame will provide for preparation and execution of the demonstration.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  Upon receiving the STA, NCSU researchers will perform experiments with the demonstration apparatus to test the feasibility of the technology for a military application. The operation of these experiments will consist of broadcasting CW signals in the frequency band of 420-500 MHz. The CW signals will be continuously swept in frequency within this band during the experiments. The duration of the broadcast will be limited to less than ten minutes per experiment, with several experiments per day. The experiments will measure the reflected response of the broadcast energy from targets in the demonstration environment. Maximum requested power of the broadcast signals is 100 W.
