FIREBIRD     Montana  State  University  –  1.5U  CubeSat  (Qty  2)                                 FIREBIRD  Expanded  View   FIREBIRD,  which  stands  for  Focused  Investigations  of  Relativistic  Electron  Burst,   Intensity,  Range,  and  Dynamics,  is  funded  by  the  National  Science  Foundation.     The  mission  is  a  targeted,  goal-­‐directed,  space  weather  Cubesat  mission  to  resolve   the  spatial  scale  size  and  energy  dependence  of  electron  microbursts  in  the  Van   Allen  radiation  belts.  FIREBIRD’s  unique  two-­‐point,  focused  observations  at  low   altitudes  fully  exploit  the  capabilities  of  the  Cubesat  platform.   FIREBIRD  utilizes  a  UHF  communication  system  which  is  necessary  to  uplink   commands  and  downlink  data  containing  spacecraft  health  as  well  as  payload  test   results.
