Application for Special Temporary Authority
File No. 0308-EX-ST-2019

PURPOSE OF STA AND FREQUENCY COORDINATION

The purpose of this STA is to further test an automobile racing communications system for voice
communications that is in the developmental stage, and in this instance, additionally to provide
frequencies for short-term video production at an automobile racing event. The tests will occur at
one racing event during the period March 29-31, 2019 at a single racing venue, Laguna Seca
Raceway. The system will be deployed by nine separate racing teams: BMW Motorsport, BMW
SMG, BMW Walkenhorst, KCMG, MSport, Pagani, Porsche Motorsport, Strakka and WRT. The
race teams will use the communications system on a developmental testing basis on behalf of
and overseen by MRTC Motorsport Communications.

The applicant requires for this venue VHF frequency pairs and simplex VHF channels as
specified for simplex and duplex voice operations; microwave channels near 2 GHz for video
relay, and several UHF channels.

The applicant has consulted the ULS database with respect to the VHF and UHF channels sought
and proposes what are believed to be unoccupied channels in the area of the Raceway. Similar
STAs have been granted for these same test operations in the same VHF range at this venue in
the past with no interference reported. Some of the microwave channels are in the 2025-2110
MHz band and will be coordinated with the local Society of Broadcast Engineers local market
coordinator before operation commences.

The “stop buzzer” contact on behalf of the applicant is Mr. Daniel Cox. His direct dial telephone
number is +44-(0)-1509-224300. A United States stop-buzzer contact is the undersigned counsel
who can be reached at all times at 301-351-3795 (mobile).
