                            Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc.

       Dear Mr.           Caton:

            Transmitted herewith, in triplicate, on behalf of Maritime
       Telecommunications Network, Inc. ("MTN") is an Application For
       Modified Radio Station Authorization (FCC Form 442) being filéd in
       connection with the Digital Shipboard Earth Station ("DSES")
       terminals currently operating under Call Sign KI2XEE.

            MTN‘s existing license expires on February 1, 1997.         Upon
       advice of the staff of the Office of Engineering and Technology
       ("OET"), the instant Application is being tendered in lieu of an
       Application for Renewal of License (FCC Form 405). Staff has
       advised that the requested modification, if granted, will issuge for
       a new term commencing on February 1, 1997.       Accordingly, ‘this
       modification application effectively serves as a renewal request
       for the existing MTN license, subject to the modifications being
       proposed in the Application.

                  MTN      has    been   further       advised           by     OET   staff     that:       1)    it
       considers any application for succeeding authority filed prior to
       the expiration date of an existing authorization to be timely
       filed; and, 2) the existing MTN experimental license (Call Sign
       KI2XEE) will have continuing effect beyond the date of its current
       expiration, pursuant to Section 1.62 of the Commission‘s rules.

     Attached hereto is a fee filing check in the amount of $45.00
(Fee Filing Code: EAE) to cover the requisite filing fee for the
Application.

     Also    attached is the transmittal letter associated with an
Amendment    to a Request For Special Temporary Authority being filed
today by     MTN before the International Bureau.      This is being
furnished    to OET at the request of staff.

     If there are any questions with respect to this matter, please
