James E. Carlson, the chief technologist of Carlson Wireless Telephone, Inc. has over
ten years of experience in developing and testing wireless remote telephone equipment. Mr.
Carlson requests an experimental license to test the i—WLL—XX digital remote phone link. The
equipment is a dual line, point—to—point spread spectrum telephone system that is designed to
deliver voice, data, email and the Internet to a remote personal computer. The devise is in two
parts, one at a fixed location mounted on a phone line and the other at remote fax, computer
modem or DTMF telephones. The experimental license is to determine the speed and
reliability upon which the wireless connection may be made and from what distances, and to
determine alignment of necessary components for maximizing the efficiencies of the overall
system.

The program of experimentation has reasonable promise of contribution to the
development, extension, expansion of the radio art because the device will allow for greater
flexibility and reliability in gaining access to the Internet and using wireless voice and data.
