Attachment 1 – Experiment Description

Itron, Inc. manufactures equipment that allows utility companies to read utility meters using radio
equipment. Itron’s meter reading equipment broadcasts the meter’s information in the general non-specific
short range band of the utility company’s country.
In the US, for example, our meter readers broadcast their information in the 910MHz-920MHz
band. However, our European products do not broadcast in the FCC allowed band. They broadcast in the
European bands. 184MHz is used in the UK and both 433MHz and 868MHz are used throughout Europe.
Because the European Bands are not licensed to us for use in the US, we must get an experimental
license in order to avoid having to test all of our European products in an anechoic chamber. Please see
