Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This is a request to EXTEND this STA in order for Clearwire to complete its tests and evaluation of a variety of consumer devices from several vendors, including WiMAX Half Mini-PCI Express cards from Intel Corporation (Intel) that are designed for use in laptop computers. This STA is necessary to provide for use by Clearwire Corporation (Clearwire) of up to 50 WiMAX Half Mini-PCI Express cards in each of three markets (for a total of up to 150 such cards) that have yet to receive Commission equipment authorization. Clearwire is planning to deploy high-speed WiMAX mobile broadband networks operating in the 2.5 GHz band in three markets (Herndon, Virginia; Washington, DC; and Portland, OR) from approximately April to August 2009. In conjunction with that deployment, Clearwire is evaluating a variety of consumer devices from several vendors, including WiMAX Half Mini-PCI Express cards from Intel Corporation (Intel) that are designed for use in laptop computers.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  To test and evaluate the performance of Clearwire new WiMAX network. The purpose of the proposed operation is to assure that consumers realize the full benefit of Clearwires new WiMAX network. Therefore, it is essential that Clearwire has an opportunity to fully evaluate the performance of the WiMAX Half Mini-PCI Express cards provided by Intel under real world scenarios before the network becomes available to consumers. Because Clearwires network is designed to provide ubiquitous service to consumers at work, at home and outdoors, and because these WiMAX Half Mini-PCI Express cards are intended for use in laptop computers that operate in a variety of locales, the testing must take place not only in business and commercial settings, but also in residential ones (where building construction and density is often quite different from that in other environments).
