Message:

The following is a response to a question from Mr. John Kennedy (sent by email to me on 5/31).
It is in regards to our request for experimental license (# 0028-EX-PL-2001):

The antenna from the aircraft to the Globalstar satellite is a patch antenna with a peak gain of
about 4 dB and a 2-dB beamwidth of about 85-degrees. It is essentially an omnidirectional
antenna. It will be mounted on the aircraft with a clear view of the sky. The gain of back-lobes,
which might illuminate the earth are at least -20 to -25 dB relative to the peak gain.
Furthermore, since the antenna will be mounted on top of the aircraft, the body of the plane will
further attenuate the back-lobe gains. Therefore, there will be no significant back-lobe energy
radiated to the ground during this experiment to cause any interference to the terrestrial
communications equipment.

Thank you
