The requested license is to enable General Dynamics to conduct testing and demonstration activities of a tactical broadband cellular system with military customer on various military bases in the US. These locations are Aberdeen Proving Ground (Maryland), White Sands Missile Range (New Mexico), and Fort Dix (New Jersey). Though individual tests typically only last several days or weeks, the reason for applying for a 24 month duration experimental license rather than multiple STA is to facilitate on-going demonstrations with various user groups at short-notice. General Dynamics is the manufacturer of end-to-end 3GPP compliant LTE equipment including user equipment, eNB (3GPP terminology for base stations), and Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The system configuration will be comprised of mobile user equipment as well as a transportable and rapidly deployable eNB configuration. The system is capable of operating across the commercial lower 700MHz spectrum (termed band class 12 in 3GPP) in both 5MHz or 10MHz bandwidths. General Dynamics will coordinate with existing licensees prior to demonstrations in a particular location as required.
