Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The United States Government, Product Manager (PM) Abrams, Main Battle Tank Systems, Program Executive Office (PEO) Ground Combat Systems (GCS) certifies that GDLS requires their submission of Form 442; File Number 0738-EX-CN-2018 to be expedited by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). a. GDLS, under contract to the US Army (W56HZV-17-C-0067, Work Directive 2023 dated 28-Sept-17) is currently supporting a Chief of Staff of the Army priority program to field the life-saving Trophy Active Protection System (APS) onto US Army M1A2 Abrams Main Battle tanks. As part of this activity, GDLS is required to install, checkout and test the Trophy APS, inclusive of the Trophy APS radar system. b. GDLS has therefore submitted Form 442 File Number 0738-EX-CN-2018. GDLS originally submitted in May 2018, and re-submitted in September 2018 to ensure classified request application requirements are met. c. Due to the extreme urgency in fielding this life saving technology, and the necessity to have the technology correctly tested prior to fielding to US Army Units in theaters of combat, the review and approval the aforementioned Form 442 is requested to be expedited.
