Form 442 Question 6: Statement of Research Project

This application is to support the development of an Active Protection System
(APS) integration into a Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV). The APS will include
a Phased Array Pulse Doppler Radar as a primary sensing component of the
system. In practice, the radar will identify, track and categorize threats fired at a
host vehicle (in this case a Stryker ICV) in order to assist the APS in computing a
fire-control solution to counter the threat.
The Research Project will evaluate the performance characteristics of the Radar to
meet required integrated APS onto Stryker goals. Existing vehicle protection
methods (Armor, ERA, SLAT etc) are not sufficient to defend against the full
spectrum of threats, therefore alternate technology, such as APS (and their
associated radars) must be evaluated for potential application to US combat
vehicles.
