Message:

This license application is for permission to operate a due regard radar (DRR) on an unmanned aerial
system (UAS) while airborne in the southern California region. The coordinates for the airfield at which
the UAS will take off and land are N 34°34.00' / W 117°40.22' (General Atomics' Gray Butte
airfield). Flight operations will be conducted at 12,000' to 15,000' MSL at a radius of 130 nm centered at
N 33°30.00' / W 116°30.00' while avoiding airspace above the greater Los Angeles area
entirely. This flight will be conducted in conjunction with NASA and the FAA as a proof of concept flight
for operating UAS in the national airspace (NAS) for commercial purposes and to demonstrate a viable
path for UAS to obtain an FAA type certificate for operation in the NAS. The DRR emitter will not jam
GPS, and therefore will not cause a situation in which anyone will have to declare "stop
buzzer" to ATC.
