                            PURPOSE OF APPLICATION

On June 16, 2000, the Commission granted consent to the merger of GTE
Corporation and Bell Atlantic Corporation. See Applications of GTE Corporation and
Bell Atlantic Corporation for Consent To Transfer Control of Domestic and International
Sections 214 and 310 Authorizations and Applications To Transfer Control of a
Submarine Cable Landing License, CC Dkt. No. 98-184, FCC 00-221 (rel. June 16,
2000) (Memorandum Opinion and Order). The merger applications included two filings
involving Part 5 authorizations (File Nos. 0002-EX-TU-2000, 0003-EX-TU-2000). The
order granted Bell Atlantic authority to acquire control of any authorizations issued to
GTE entities during the Commission’s consideration of the merger applications and the
period required for consummation following grant of the Commission’s approval.
Pursuant to that provision, notice was provided to the Commission by letter dated July 26,
2000 regarding the addition of the subject call sign licensed to GTE Wireless
Incorporated. The Commission’s staff subsequently directed the parties to file an
application on Form 703 to reflect this addition as part of the GTE-Bell Atlantic merger.

John T. Scott, III is a duly authorized representative of Bell Atlantic Corporation
d/b/a Verizon Communications.
