Subject : Fujitsu Ten Corp. of America‘s Application for STA




  FUJITSU TEN Corp. of America wishes to apply for Special Temporary Authority for purpose of
operating a single mobile radar device, mounted onto a passenger car chassis, for the development of
Adaptive Cruise Controls Systems in the US Transportation Industry.

  The device itself enhances the performance of existing cruise control systems and is viewed to assist in
creating a higher level of awareness for the operator of the vehicle, when the cruise control system is
activated. The STA will provide Fujitsu Ten the opportunity the cumulative efforts of our company over
the past 26 years, with the goal of promoting similar such application of devices here in the US.

  The devices as described below.

 Presently the device under development operates in the millimeter wave frequency band of 76.5GHz
+/—50.0MHz. The unit is manufactured by Fujitsu Ten. The device has an effective radiated power
emission of no greater than 2 milli watts, with an antenna gain of 30.5dB . The spurious power emission is
less than 100 micro watts. The detection range is set for 120 meters and signal is classified as Frequency
Modulated—Continuous Wave type device. The unit is to be mounted less than 1 meter above the road. A
single vehicle with unit be configured for demonstration purposes and data gathering purposes.

 The device will only be in use for a period of 6 months between October,1999 and March 1999. The use
will be limited to the metropoliitan Detroit area and if necessary use can be restricted to the 1—696, 1—275,
M—14, 1—75 interstate corridor, during the hours of 6:00¥AM and 8:00PM.
