Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The STA will enable Fortem Technologies to test its low weight, low power prototype radar in order to refine its design prior to requesting further licensing as an ATAR system. We originally applied for an STA in the 16.3-16.5 GHz frequency band. We were advised by the FCC and FAA in the future to test at 15.4-15.7 GHz which is allocated for Aeronautical Radionavigation. We have more testing to complete in the new frequency band before we apply for FCC certification and licenses for our product as an ATAR system. This is necessary to support work we are currently doing for an AFRL contract on counter-drone technology, work with NASA on drone detect and avoid, and additional work on drones we are proposing to the US DoD (Air Force and Army).
Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
To test its low weight, low power prototype radar. This ultra-small SWaP-C radar has been designed to enable UAVs to detect and avoid other airborne vehicles, thus allowing them to safely fly Beyond Line of Sight. We will need to perform testing near our new company headquarters in Pleasant Grove, Ut and at other selected sites for demos to government and other entities. This testing will be directed by the engineering team which joined Fortem Technologies when the technology was purchased from IMSAR; the team has managed STA and Experimental Licenses in the past.
