Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Flarion herein requests extension of its existing Special Temporary Authorization, pursuant to Section 5.61 of the Commissions Rules, to continue operation of an experimental prototype beginning on November 16, 2005. Flarion seeks to operate its equipment, which the Commission had already authorized it to operate on a permanent experimental basis at its headquarters in Bedminster, NJ and New York, NY (Call Sign WC2XLF), on a continued temporary basis at the same locations on the frequencies identified herein. Flarion is filing concurrently herewith an application to add these frequencies on a permanent basis at Bedminster and seeks extension of its STA pending the Commissions approval of that application. Flarions request for STA is supported by good cause. Flarion is developing a new broadband mobile data communications system for the 450 MHz band. Flarion has developed this equipment for the 700 MHz band as well as the 1900 MHz PCS band, and is seeking to enable the operation of this system in the 450 MHz band to support new market opportunities. Flarion relies heavily on the data it generates from the operation of its experimental devices to verify functionality and improve the responsiveness of the unit before committing additional resources to full-scale commercial production. Flarion therefore seeks permission to continue testing the equipment in the 450 MHz band.
