Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Flarion requests authorization, pursuant to Section 5.61 of the Commission's Rules, to operate an experimental prototype from March 15, 2002 through March 22, 2002. Flarion seeks to operate its equipment, which the Commission has already authorized it to operate on a permanent experimental basis at its headquarters in Bedminster, NJ and New York, NY (Call Sign WC2XLF), on a temporary basis at the CTIA Wireless 2002 Convention in Orlando, Florida. Flarion is seeking STA because the scope and duration of its proposed operation warrant only temporary authority under Part 5 of the Commission's rules.
Flarion's request for STA is supported by good cause. Flarion is developing a new broadband mobile data communications system in the 700 MHz band. Such a demonstration at the premier industry trade show maximizes the visibility of the technology and would allow Flarion to receive valuable feedback from attendees at the trade show, thus enabling Flarion to continue to make modifications to its system before marketing its device. Flarion relies heavily on the data it generates from the operation of its experimental devices and seeks, by demonstrating its equipment at the trade show, to improve the responsiveness of the unit before committing additional resources to full-scale commercial production. Flarion sought, and was granted, STA to demonstrate its device at the CTIA Wireless show last year (see Call Sign WB9XLW), and it believes that it can further benefit from the opportunity to participate in this year's convention.
