Interference has been reported in some locations with the Etymotic Research Companion Mic, FCC ID RWT-ER84. This application for an experimental license is being submitted to allow testing of methods are most effective in resolving the interference in locations with congested spectrum.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  Operation of the Companion Microphone in locations with congested spectrum in the 2.4 GHz ISM band have reported interference. Among the most congested locations identified are retail electronics stores, where many devices operate in the band within the relatively small space of the store. This application is being submitted to allow experimentation on the best methods for operating in such environments. Among the methods explored will be increasing the transmission power to a maximum of 20 dBm. Other methods will be modified hoping sequences and clear channel assessment algorithms. Experiments are desired in retail electronic stores in Austin, TX, Chicago, IL and New York, NY. In all cases testing will be coordinated and approved by the store manager. Testing will typically take place in 1 hour to 4 hour sessions.
