Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
EPRI’s utility members have requested a technical evaluation of the potential of 6 GHz RLAN devices to create harmful interference to their incumbent fixed service (FS) 6 GHz operations. A field test, rather than another paper study, would be of most benefit to our utility members and one utility is providing an operational FS installation for a field test (detailed below). Since Part-15 certified equipment is not yet available in this band, EPRI is proposing to use general purpose test equipment, Wi-Fi 6E prototypes, and/or Part 15 PtMP equipment as the RLAN devices. Therefore, to operate this equipment in the 6 GHz band without a Prior Coordination Notice (PCN) it is our understanding that an STA is required.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  The purpose of the testing is to determine if RLAN devices can produce harmful interference to an incumbent licensed microwave receiver. The exercise will test several scenarios of the two equipment types. In all scenarios the RLANs will be in compliance with the FCC 20-51 Report and Order Appendix A, Final Rules. An incumbent fixed service (FS) “victim” microwave operating in the lower 6 GHz band (5925-6425 MHz) will be used in the testing. The testing will focus on RLAN operation within 5 km of the “victim” FS receiver, with RLAN devices operating in adjacent and co-channel scenarios. Further details on the specific test plans and sites are available on request.
