(ESPN) request for special temporary authority (STA), File No. 1597-EX-ST-2018, less than 10 days prior to the proposed operation date of September 18, 2018. ESPN must apply to extend its existing STA each 30 days in light of the fact that AFTRCC coordination for the operations under the STA is available for only 30-day periods. Given the fact that AFTRCC coordination is often completed only days before the deadline for ESPN to submit its application to extend the STA, ESPN has met with OET staff to discuss the possibility of obtaining an STA for a term longer than 30 days, conditioned on ESPN obtaining the requisite AFTRCC coordinations during such term. Pending a staff determination as to whether ESPN may obtain an STA for a longer term or whether the process could otherwise be streamlined, however, the requirement to renew both AFTRCC coordination and the STA every 30 days has created a strain on ESPN’s resources, and in this instance I was working at a remote site in support of ESPN operations and was thus unable to submit the application timely. Upon discovery of this administrative oversight, ESPN promptly submitted the STA application and required AFTRCC coordination documentation. Good cause exists to grant the STA request to avoid disruption to ESPN’s ongoing operation of 1.4 GHz wireless microphones pursuant to its existing STA. Dana Underhill
