Re: Request for Extension of Special Temporary Authority

   Gentlemen:

On behalf of EMS Technologies, Inc. ("EMS"), we are submitting herewith a
request for a six (6) month extension of the Special Temporary Authority ("STA") which
expires on December 31, 1997. Extension of the STA is necessary because the
application for a new station in the experimental radio service (FCC Form 442) filed
simultaneously with the original STA request on March 25, 1997, remains pending at the
   Commussion.

Pursuant to the STA (and the underlying application for an experimental radio
license), EMS Wireless, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. is testing antenna designs
for cellular, PCS and similar communications services, as well as spot checking antennas
to ensure conformity with established specifications. The STA has permitted EMS to
commence testing which, in turn, benefits the public by expediting manufacture and
distribution of antennas to satisfy the public‘s demand for increasingly popular cellular,
PCS and similar service, and ensuring that antennas meet quality standards.

EMS believes that the public interest will be served and that no entity will be
harmed by extension of the STA. EMS acknowledges that its proposed operation of an
experimental radio frequencies is conditioned on final disposition of its FCC Form 442
by the FCC and will cease operation immediately if requested by the FCC.

                                                                               PiPER & MaARBURY
                                                                                         L.L.P

A drug certification statement, a check in the amount of $45.00 in payment of the
STA request filing fee, and FCC Form 159 are attached hereto.

Any questions regarding this matter should be directed to the undersigned
counsel.
