Sharlene Katz

Dear Sharlene

Thank you for the frequency coordination request. We have coordinated the following
frequency

Downlink /Uplink 437,400 MHz

Please let us know what the final launch date is. It is important to establish what other
satellites using amateur frequencies are on the same launch as duplication can occur
and frequencies have to be changed at the last minutes to prevent interference
immediate after launch.

Please note that all frequencies in the amateur satellite service are shared frequencies.
We have attempted to make the best possible selection for your project.

You are also referred to the ITU requirements for satellites. We have prepared an easy
reference document which is available on www.iaru.org/satellite, it will assist you to
comply with the ITU requirements for Amateur satellites. Please advise me the API
details once you have received the information from your regulator.

Please also read the “controlling satellites” document available on
www.iaru.org/satellite

While coordinating the frequency noted above, we also note that use of frequencies as
described in your request for frequency coordination appears inconsistent with
numbers 1.56 and 1.57 of the ITU radio regulations.

RR 1.56 amateur service: A radiocommunication service for the purpose of self-
training, intercommunication and technical investigations carried out by amateurs, that
is, by duly authorized [licensed] persons [individual natural people] interested in
radio technique solely with a personal aim [for themselves] and without pecuniary
interest [compensation].

(NOTE1: Explanatory terms in brackets are not part of the treaty text.),
(NOTE2: “ without pecuniary interest” means that you may accept free will donations of
goods and services, that is, with nothing required in return. However, you may not

accept money or other compensation for services or data provided to anyone for any
reason.)
RR 1.57 amateur-satellite service: A radiocommunication service using space
stations on earth satellites for the same purposes as those of the amateur
service.
We strongly suggest consulting with your administration (telecommunication
regulator) to determine if the amateur-satellite service or another
radiocommunication service is appropriate for your operation. The decision of
whether the proposed operation is appropriate for the amateur-satellite service
rests entirely with your administration. We encourage you to share this letter
with them.

Best wishes for a successful project. Please keep us informed of developments and
progress.
