This research and experimentation project is focused on the demonstration of the C Speed
LightWave Radar when connected to the US Navy’s AN/SPN-43C to perform air traffic monitoring
and control for military shipboard applications. It is being conducted to support requirements
expressed to us by the DoD/US Navy. The objective of this effort is to demonstrate the capabilities of
a hybrid LightWave/SPN-43 system (LightWave electronics and SPN-43 antenna/displays) by
emitting and receiving skin returns from non-cooperative airborne targets of interest. This cannot be
accomplished in a laboratory environment. As such, field testing at the US Navy Webster Field SPN-
43 Test Site at ST. Inigoes, MD is necessary. As this system is not a radio associated with
communications, it will not contribute in this area – however, it will contribute to military air safety
and development as a radar system for legacy upgrade and new installations.
For this effort, C Speed is a second-tier subcontractor to Sierra Nevada Corporation (Contract #
S15FMB110), who, in turn, is under contract to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division,
Patuxent River, MD.
