        Dear Sir or Madam:

        Transmitted herewith on behalf of Baron Services,                                 Inc.   are an original
        and one copy of a request for Special Temporary Authority ("STA") to test
        and demonstrate an X—Band Doppler Weather Radar System for the purpose
        of detection and display of precipitation targets.   This STA application
        is necessary to begin testing on July 1, 1998.

        The        X—Band    Doppler     Weather    Radar     System               is   manufactured       by    Baron
        Services,        Inc.     This STA request is for the opportunity to install and
        conduct technical demonstrations during the pendency of the application
        for permanent authority.

        Also transmitted herewith is a check in the amount of $45.00 in payment
        of the required filing fee for this request.

        It is requested that a stamped file copy of the enclosed                                           filing be
        returned to us in the enclosed postage prepaid envelope.

             demonstrations of an X and Band Doppler Weather Radar System.

       Need for Special Action: Application for a new temporary
       experimental authorization to cover equipment demonstration
       and evaluation with a duration of operation of approximately
       180 days or until grant of the application for equipment
       authorization is obtained.

       Type of operation to be conducted: The Baron Services,
       Inc.("Baron") XDD—300X is a Doppler weather radar used for
       the detection and display of precipitation targets.  Baron
       intends to conduct demonstrations in response to requests of
       various television stations and other meteorological users.
       It transmits pulses of 0.4, 1.0 and 2.0 micro—seconds in
       duration.  The maximum ERP from its antenna at the frequency
       range of 9100     to   9600 MHZ will be   129.77 dBewith a maximum

       Purpose of operation: It is proposed to demonstrate the
       Baron Services, Inc. XDD—300X for evaluation at Huntsville,             a;éy
       Alabama commencing July 1, 1998.

       Time and date of proposed operation:          180 days commencing
       July 1,   1998.


       Class of Station:        FX XD

       Nature of Service:       Experimental

       Location of proposed operation:         The system will be tested at
       Baron Services home office located in Huntsville,         Alabama
       and will comply with all notification requirements outlined
       in Section 5.65 (b) of the FCC Rules.

      does not exceed six meters above the existing structure.
