We are a designer of wireless modules which are FCC certified for use in the short range device, non-licensed bands (433 MHz, 915 MHz, 2400 MHz). Our devices are low power, transmitting just a few hundred feet (<20 dBm), and tests during development are performed either through direct connection to a network analyzer or within an anechoic chamber. Occasionally we would like to perform indoor or outdoor “range testing” to validate the analyzer and chamber results, which is why we are applying for an “experimental license”. Operation of devices under the experimental license will be sporadic, perhaps less than 10 times per year at a duration of typically <30 minutes per event. Our modules are based on transceiver ICs from TI, which are capable of multiple modulation schemes (GFSK, 2FSK, 4FSK, QPSK, etc.). During the course of a given verification we may want to test more than one modulation scheme. My question is how this should be listed on the experimental license application. Should I include a separate emissions designator for each and every known modulation scheme, or is there a simpler preferred method? Also knowing that new modulation schemes may be introduced on future devices, would the experimental license need to be amended with new modulations, and if so is there a straightforward way to do that?
