Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
An STA is needed to test and demo a radar prototype developed at Numerica Corporation. A field test is to be performed using a Numericas prototyped design to demonstrate operation to potential customers and generate potential funding. Although the current prototype operates within the 5.8GHz ISM band with low power emissions, an FCC STA license is required to transmit the maximum EIRP expected during demonstration.

Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Explanation

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
An STA is needed to test and demo a software defined radar prototype developed at Numerica Corporation and Agile RF Systems (ARS). The radar targets class 1 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) at 8km using pulse-doppler techniques. A field test is to be performed using a Numerica designed Radar Processing Unit (RPU) and ARS’s Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) to demonstrate operation to potential customers within the counter-UAS market and generate potential funding. Although the current prototype operates within the 5.8GHz ISM band, an FCC STA license is required to transmit the maximum EIRP expected during demonstration (53dBW).

Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:
The testing and demonstration will operate within the 5.8 GHz ISM band (5.725 GHz – 5.875 GHz) with a bandwidth of 50 MHz at a remote location in order to avoid any FAA or FCC interference issues. The location is Pawnee Sportsman Center, 40914 Co Rd 71, Briggsdale, CO 80611, which supports UAV flight. The RPU will generate pulses of approximately 0.1-10 us width to be transmitted with a directive AESA (24dB directivity). The AESA has 4 8x8 subarray elements for a maximum 16x16 or 256 elements on transmit and receive. Each element is designed to supply 1-Watt power to a rectangular patch element. The maximum EIRP is expected to be 53 dBW. Using an Transmit/Receive Module, after transmission the receiver will collect scattering EM returns from the target and clutter Radar Cross Section (RCS). The RPU will sample and processes said returns using Numerica proprietary techniques to detect and track the target.
