Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Amazon seeks special temporary authority to commence testing to evaluate the design and performance of prototype antennas for earth stations, spacecraft and customer terminals in Amazon labs during development. Amazon seeks to begin testing as soon as possible, August 26, 2021. Amazon is preparing to deliver high-capacity, low-latency broadband communications services to tens of millions of unserved and underserved consumers and businesses with the Kuiper System. Licensed by the Commission on July 29, 2020, the Kuiper System will be comprised of 3,236 satellites at altitudes of 590 km, 610 km, and 630 km. This grant would serve the public interest by enabling Amazon to further enhance and validate the components of the Kuiper System.
