Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation

Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The STA will enable Fortem Technologies to test its low weight, low power prototype radar in order to refine its design prior to requesting further licensing as an ATAR system. This is necessary to support work we are currently doing for AFRL and DARPA contracts on counter-drone technology, work with NASA on drone detect and avoid, and additional work on drones we are proposing to the US DoD (Air Force and Army).

Special Temporary Authority application - Initial values - Purpose of Operation

Please explain the purpose of operation:
To test its low weight, low power (SWaP-C) prototype radar. This ultra-small SWaP-C radar has been designed to enable UAVs to detect and avoid other airborne vehicles, thus allowing them to safely fly Beyond Line of Sight. We will need to perform testing near our new company headquarters in Pleasant Grove, Ut and at two locations near Virginia Tech University. This testing will be directed by the engineering team which joined Fortem Technologies when the technology was purchased from IMSAR; the team has managed STA and Experimental Licenses in the past.
