Special Temporary Authority application - Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The Applicant is participating in a demonstration of radio equipment at the Naval Postgraduate Schools Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX) 16-3 program from May 10-13, 2016. JIFX 16-3 will be held at Camp Roberts, Highway 101, Camp Roberts, CA 93451-5000. JIFX enables a diverse group of academics, government labs, private industry, end users, and others to come together to develop and refine new technologies in a field environment. To conduct this demonstration, Applicant must use Wi-Fi equipment. The Army has stated Applicant must obtain an STA from the FCC to operate the Wi-Fi equipment on a U.S. military base. This is a change in policy from previous JIFX sessions, where approved, commercial Wi-Fi equipment could be used on a military base without first obtaining an STA from the Commission. Applicant only recently learned about this change in policy with respect to commercial Wi-Fi equipment and, thus, is filing the Application at this later date. Under the circumstances, Applicant respectfully request expedited processing thereof. More information about JIFX 16-3 can be obtained at http://www.nps.edu/About/Events/NPSEvents_JIFX_16_3.html Applicant seeks a six-month STA to enable it to participate in other scheduled events at Camp Roberts during the next several months.
