Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Keurig B80K home based brewers will use the new Kcup identification technology with RFID. Using this feature Keurig B80K brewers can uniquely identify the type of Kcup being used and adjust its brewing parameters optimally to match the beverage content of the Kcup. RFID based Kcup identification technology has been developed to support Keurigs initiatives in developing new beverage recipes that requires custom brewing. Prior design finalization of the brewer Keurig wants to determine consumer acceptance by conducting a focused study group. This would allow changes to the design prior to formal TCB certification.

Please explain the purpose of operation:
To support Keurigs initiatives in developing new beverage recipes that requires custom brewing. Keurig B80K home based brewers has the new Kcup identification technology using RFID. Using this feature Keurig B80K brewers can uniquely identify the type of Kcup being used and adjust its brewing parameters optimally to match the beverage content of the Kcup. RFID based Kcup identification technology has been developed to support Keurigs initiatives in developing new beverage recipes that requires custom brewing. The Kcups are embedded with near field UHF tags which has the cup specific information stored in its internal memory which the near field RFID reader operating in 902-928 ISM band in the brewer can extract to set the optimal brewing parameters. Consumers who use Keurig brewers typically consume 2 cups a day (one in the morning and one in the evening) and each time a Kcup is used, the RFID reader is turned ON typically for 100-200 msec with worst case up to 1 second to complete the read transaction. The UHF reader in the B80K brewer can be categorized as a digital modulation system FCC part 15 under sec 247. The RFID reader was designed by Keurig Engineering using the Maxim MAX2900 transmitter IC with an output power of +23 dBm and -1 dB of cable loss between the transmitter and the antenna. Maxim claims FCC Part 15 Sec 247 compliance according MAX2900 IC specifications. The protocol used in this reader is ISO 18000-6C. RFID reader in the brewer utilizes 8 predefined discrete frequency channels in the 902-928 MHz band to energize and read information from RFID tag. The reader is energized upon placement of the Kcup into the brewer.; i.e. the reader turned ON. The reader cycles through the 8 channels until the correct information is received from the tag. This operation typically takes 100-200 msec with a worst case of 1 second. Once the cup is identified the RF is turned OFF. The reader antenna( mounted inside the brewer) is a near field UHF antenna with an overall gain of -20 dBi. This provides a near field signal sufficient to energize the tag but limits the signal outside the brewer. The peak conducted output power from the reader is less than 1W as allowed by FCC part 15 sec 247 and the 6dB signal bandwidth is close to 1MHz. Based on tests performed by Keurig in a test chamber, the measured peak and average for the radiated harmonics / spurious emissions are within the prescribed range. Keurig is progressing with performing comprehensive FCC tests per Sec 247. In the mean time to gather important market information, Keurig desires to test 300 brewers in the field to gather customer acceptance data for the new beverage recipes.
